This blew me away

I think of life and I think I could just go on living life in my comfortable bubble but reading John Piper’s book “Don’t waste your life” has made me think hard about how I “DO” life.

In Chapter 7 I was challenged, so challenged. The chapter was all about living a life that shows people that Jesus is more precious than life. PSALM 63:3 – Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you

Here are some points that made me think

  • If Christ is an all-satisfying treasure and promises to provide all our needs through all circumstances then to live as though we have the same values as the world would betray him. Read Matthew 6:31-32
  • If we look like our lives are devoted to getting and maintaining our lifestyle, we will end up looking like the world, and the result is that God won’t look great. Do we want to be good representatives?
  • Could calling yourself a Christian be a religious side interest that maybe useful for escaping hell but it doesn’t make much of a difference in how we live on this earth?
  • If we are indeed exiles and refugees on earth (1Peter 2:11) and if our citizenship is in heaven (Phil 3:20) and if nothing can separate us from the love of Jesus (Psalm 63:3) and if all hardship is working for us an eternal weight of glory (2 Corth 4:17) then we will give to the winds our fears and “seek first the kingdom of God and hi righteousness”(Matt 6:33).
  • Why do we choose to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin rather than mistreated with the people of God.

When’s the last time someone asked you about the HOPE you have?

This was the jist of one of the sections in this chapter. It poses a question that we should all ask ourselves. If we lived like the above I think more people would ask the question! When Peter says “But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have (1Peter 3:15).

Piper answers the question “Why don’t people ask us about our hope?”  by saying that probably we live our lives the same as everyone else around us and we look as if we hope in the same things as they do.

If you aren’t convicted by what you just read then I guess i wasn’t as powerful as it was for me.
